Getting started with Webpress
Create your first website project and open it in the editor in a couple of minutes. No code required.

Welcome to Webpress! This guide walks you through the very first thing you'll do: creating a project and opening the visual editor. If a word here is unfamiliar, What is Webpress? explains the core ideas first.
Before you start
You need a Webpress account. If you don't have one yet, head to the sign-up page and create one with your email, or with your Google or GitHub account. The full walkthrough is in Accounts & signing in. Creating an account automatically gives you a Default Workspace, so you're ready to build right away.
Create a new project
A project is one website you're building. Here's how to start one:
- From the dashboard, open the All Projects section (it's the default page after you sign in).
- Click the New Project button in the top-right corner.
- A short setup wizard appears. The only required step is the project name — for example, "Acme Studio."
- The remaining steps are optional and exist only to give the AI and the starter templates a better idea of what you want. You can skip every one of them and change anything later.
- Click Create project. Your project is created and the editor opens automatically.
What the optional steps are for

| Description | A sentence about what the site is for. Helps the AI and template recommendations. |
| Website type | Business, portfolio, online store, blog, landing page, restaurant, and so on. |
| Main goal | Showcase work, sell products, generate leads, publish content… This nudges which sections you're offered first. |
| Design vibe | Minimal, bold, elegant, playful, professional, modern. Sets the tone of your starting style. |
| Audience | Who the site is for. Optional context for the AI. |
None of these lock you in. They just give you a better starting point. You can leave them all blank and click straight through to Create project.
What happens next
When the editor opens for an empty project, you'll usually be greeted by a starter screen offering two paths:
- Start with AI — describe your site and let the AI build a full page. See Building with the AI assistant.
- Start with a template — pick a ready-made design for your industry and customize it. See Using templates.
You can also dismiss that screen and build from a blank page by dragging blocks yourself.
Open an existing project
Back on the dashboard, every project shows as a card. Hover over a card and click Open in Editor to jump back into editing. The editor lives at a web address like /app/editor/<your-project>.

Where to go next
Once the editor is open you can start adding content, styling it, and arranging your pages. When you're happy, you publish your site to a free webpress.id address or your own custom domain.
