Nove is nine, the number on our door. One small room, pasta made by hand, and a wine list kept short enough to remember.

Every afternoon, before the lane fills with evening light, we roll the pasta. Flour, eggs, a long wooden table. It takes as long as it takes.

The room is small on purpose. Thirty-eight seats, and at number nine on Rua dos Remédios we know whose table is whose.

We cook the food of an Italian osteria in a Portuguese neighbourhood. The tiles are Alfama's, the wine is short and natural, and the menu fits on one sheet.
